Seniors
The Seniors represent a most valued group in our society, many of whom have served for years in establishing our Cathedral. As ardent workers, they laid the foundations of our Melkite presence in Australia.
In addition to many spiritual activities organised by Fr. Gerges Albutros and the Seniors and Friends' team, St Michael's Meals provides many opportunities for our elderly to interact together, offering them the possibility of helping the needy in our midst. This could be in any form such as donating food items or preparing delicious meals.
A beautiful and effective partnership has developed between the two organisations. On the first Friday of each month, we meet for the Holy Liturgy, followed by an intimate and friendly lunch. On a few occasions, and for a change, “Seniors and Friends” holds its gathering in one of the local clubs.
A number of exciting outings and important projects are also planned in which the Seniors group will assist St Michael’s Meals in achieving its objectives.
When someone is sick they can feel even more alone than ever. So we are committed to visiting the sick within our local community. We'll go to their homes on a weekly basis and to hospitals or nursing homes when necessary. We want to be able to provide comfort and care if there is no family support. Some need to be driven to medical appointments, while others might require help with their shopping or a hot meal on our visits.
For “greater love has no one than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends”. (Jn 15: 13)
